On January 7, 2026, the China Electronics Standardization Institute (CESI) issued notice to call for drafting units for two sector standards on the calculation method and requirements for product carbon footprints:

·         Greenhouse gases—Quantification requirement and method for carbon footprint of products — servers (standard project no.: 2025-1209T-SJ)

·         Greenhouse gases—Quantification requirement and method for carbon footprint of products —integrated circuits (standard project no.: 2025-1210T-SJ)

These two sector standards respectively stipulate the requirements for quantifying the carbon footprint of servers and integrated circuit (IC) products and describe the corresponding quantification methods for the carbon footprint of these products, providing guidance for the carbon footprint accounting of servers and integrated circuit products. The standard projects of these two standards were announced in the notice by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) for the approval of fifth batch of sector standards of 2025 on December 29 last year.

Qualifications for drafting entities are required as:

-   Participants must possess practical experience and technical knowledge in fields such as servers, ICs, life cycle assessment, or product carbon footprint, and be engaged in relevant production, application, research, testing, certification, or teaching activities.

-    Participating organizations shall fully support the standard development process, cooperate with the managing and leading units, and fulfill their duties as drafting committee members。

-   Each organization shall appoint a dedicated representative to actively participate in the drafting work, including attending meetings, providing constructive feedback, and completing assigned tasks.

Entities/organizations that intend to apply are required to submit the application with the template form attached in the recruiting notice before February 28, 2026.

Foreign stakeholders, especially those in the IC and server sectors, are advised to follow up on the progress of these two standards, as the technical requirements may become a key reference for China’s relevant schemes or regulations for carbon footprint calculation in order to achieve the country’s carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals.
